Sploot Seal

A seal at full sploot.

Grey pile takes up most of the frame, broad and soft-edged, with the cream face and belly opening a lighter shape through the middle. The flippers stretch out at either end, the body settles heavily into the canvas, and a handful of dark patches drift across the coat like loose marks on a drawing.

The face does the quiet work. Two black eyes catch small white flashes, while the whiskers and nose stay deliberately simple. A heavy black outline keeps the silhouette readable even as the pile softens every edge inside it.

It is an uncomplicated subject, but the scale changes the feeling. A seal's compact body becomes a whole field of grey, something you could lie down beside as easily as hang on a wall. The cartoon is still there; the yarn gives it weight, warmth, and a very convincing place to sploot.
